Economic Impact
Over the past 30 years, the electronics industry has grown into the largest
business sector of the economy. Perhaps as importantly, its products also
underpin productivity improvements in all manufacturing and service sectors.
This enabling process can only continue if past levels of improvement
in performance and cost can be maintained. The electronics industry is
strong because it has NOT relied on a single technology or class of components.
Many have been created, evolved productively and been replaced by others.
We face such a transition for future memory technology. All of today's
memory designs face increasing problems in meeting the ITRS projections
and the time is right for another transition - to PMCm.
